Youth Sewing Workshops: Learn to Sew with Expert Guidance

Ever thought about picking up sewing, either for yourself or your kid? County Extension Agent Karen DeZarn is offering some hands-on workshops that might be just what you’re looking for.

These sessions are geared toward beginners and welcome both younger children and teenagers. You’ll find them happening right in Lampasas, and honestly, it’s a solid chance to pick up a new skill, meet a few people, and make something you can actually hold in your hands.

What to Expect from the Young Sewer Workshop

The Young Sewer Workshop is for kids ages 8-12. It runs over two days—July 21 and 22—from 1 to 4 p.m. each afternoon.

Kids get to try out the basics: using a sewing machine, figuring out different fabrics, and learning some simple stitches. The vibe is very much about having fun while learning, so no pressure if they’ve never touched a needle before.

Workshop Details

4-H members can join the Young Sewer Workshop for free. Non-members pay just $10, which seems pretty reasonable for a couple afternoons and a new skill.

The Teenager Sewer Workshop

Teens haven’t been left out. The Teenager Sewer Workshop is set for July 23 and July 25, also from 1 to 4 p.m.

Advanced Learning and Projects

Teen participants will learn how to create patterns, sew zippers, and work with a wider range of fabrics. It’s a step up in difficulty, but that’s part of the draw.

Like the younger group, 4-H members get in free, and non-members pay $10. Not bad for a couple afternoons of learning something genuinely useful.
