Join the Darke County Senior Center for an Exciting Quilting Course

Quilting fans—whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been at it for years—might want to check out what’s happening this summer at the Darke County Senior Center. Beginning June 1, there’s a new quilting course on the schedule, featuring eight sessions led by Carey Lee of Creative Bee Quilting, plus Theresa Kress.

The class aims to walk folks through making eight different quilt blocks. By the end, you can piece them together into a table topper, wall hanging, or even a quilt if you’re feeling ambitious.

Classes run every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. It’s shaping up to be a fun, hands-on way to spend a few summer mornings.

Comprehensive Quilting Course Details

This quilting course at the Darke County Senior Center is meant for all skill levels. Newbies and experienced quilters alike will find something to enjoy.

Each week, you’ll tackle a different quilt block. The idea is to end up with eight blocks that come together into a finished piece.

Course Schedule and Venue

The course runs eight Mondays in a row, starting June 1. Sessions are from 10 a.m. to noon at the Birchwood Training & Senior Center, 5844 Jaysville St. Johns Road, Greenville.

It’s a comfortable, easy-to-find spot with plenty of room to spread out your project.

Course Fees and Material Costs

Each class costs $15, not including fabric. Plan for extra material costs between $100 and $150, depending on what fabrics you pick out.

It’s not the cheapest hobby, but the payoff is a quilt you’ll be proud of.

Essential Supplies for Participants

Don’t forget to bring these items to every class:

  • Your own sewing machine (make sure you know how to use it!)
  • Cutting mat
  • Rotary cutter
  • Cutting rulers
  • Neutral thread
  • Pins
  • Frixion pen
  • Small scissors or snips

You’ll need these for all the cutting and sewing. Instructors will also show you how to add sashes and borders, sandwich your quilt, and pick out batting and backing. They’ll even point you toward some good longarm quilters if you want a professional finish.

Membership and Additional Activities

The Darke County Senior Center has plenty going on besides quilting. It’s a lively spot for folks 55 and older.
