Joann Fabrics Returns Inside Michaels: Expanded Craft and Party Supplies

Michaels just rolled out two new shop-in-shop concepts: The Knit & Sew Shop and The Party Shop. This comes right after Michaels snagged Joann’s intellectual property, following Joann Fabrics’ bankruptcy and the closing of its 800-plus stores earlier this year.

The new sections inside Michaels stores will feature Joann’s branding and private-label products. That means craft lovers across North America get some fresh excitement and way more choices.

The Knit & Sew Shop: A Haven for Sewing and Yarn Lovers

With The Knit & Sew Shop, Michaels isn’t just adding a corner for sewing stuff. They’re building a dedicated space that blends the best of both Michaels and Joann Fabrics.

This dual-branded shop brings together threads, sewing notions, yarn, and fabric selections in most stores. Michaels wants to keep up with the rising demand for sewing and yarn supplies, so they’re giving these categories more space and a wider product range.

Expanded Fabric Selection

Michaels has really amped up its fabric offerings, now in over 840 stores. They plan to add fabric to another 250 locations soon.

The retailer increased the space for fabric by almost 25%, so shoppers get a much broader selection. There are over 95,000 options online, including all sorts of licensed prints. If you love fabric, it’s honestly hard not to find something you like.

Joann brands like Big Twist are joining the mix and will be on shelves by the end of October. That’s a pretty big deal for fans of those lines.

Enhanced Sewing and Yarn Assortments

The sewing and yarn sections got a major boost too. Michaels expanded the yarn selection by 25% to keep up with what customers want.

They’re adding hundreds of new skeins, new brands, and Joann private-label favorites. Michaels also brought in Gütermann threads, sewing machines from Singer and Brother, sewing notions, and even beginner needle-crafting kits.

Fabric cutting tables will pop up in more than 650 stores by mid-October. That should make the whole process a lot easier for folks who sew.

The Party Shop: A Celebration Destination

Right alongside The Knit & Sew Shop, Michaels is launching The Party Shop. It’s a space for everything party-related, aiming to make Michaels the top spot for party supplies.

With custom balloon bundles and grab-and-go options, The Party Shop tries to cover every possible celebration. It’s a bold move, and honestly, it might just work.

Extensive Product Range

The Party Shop offers a huge range of party supplies, with 79,000 balloon and party items online. Michaels expanded the party section in every store to fit 700 new products.

You’ll find DIY balloon arch kits, tableware, themed paper goods, and all sorts of accessories. Each store even has a Balloon Bar with latex and foil balloons, plus customizable options if you want something unique.

Convenience and Accessibility

Michaels’ expansion shows how committed they are to keeping customers happy. With 47 stores in Ohio alone—seven in Cincinnati, three in Columbus, and a bunch in Northeast Ohio—it’s getting easier to find what you need.
