Joann Fabrics Returns: Discover Michaels’ New Knit & Sew Shop

Michaels just shook up the world of fabric and party supplies. They’ve launched two specialized shops: The Knit & Sew Shop and The Party Shop.

This move positions Michaels as the largest specialty fabric and party retailer in North America. They’re stepping in to fill the gap left by Joann Fabrics.

Now, over 840 Michaels stores feature a bigger selection of fabrics, yarns, and party supplies. If you’re into DIY or planning parties, you might want to check it out.

The Knit & Sew Shop: A Haven for Fabric Enthusiasts

Michaels has seriously expanded its fabric offerings with The Knit & Sew Shop. Here, you’ll find a wide mix of fabrics, yarns, and sewing gear—kind of blending the best of Michaels and Joann Fabrics.

Expanded Assortment and Floor Space

After acquiring Joann’s intellectual property and private label brands, Michaels added more fabric choices in over 840 stores. They plan to reach another 250 locations soon.

They’ve given sewing supplies 25% more floor space. That means more room to browse and, honestly, less bumping elbows with other shoppers.

Professional-Style Cutting Tables

One cool new feature? Professional-style cutting tables called Cut Bars. By mid-October, over 650 stores will have them.

These tables should make fabric cutting feel more professional—and maybe just a little more fun.

Yarn Selection and Trusted Brands

Yarn lovers, take note: Michaels increased its yarn selection by 25%. They’re adding hundreds of skeins, including Joann favorites like Big Twist, which arrives October 30.

The aisles also have trusted sewing brands like:

  • Gütermann threads
  • Singer and Brother machines
  • Fiskars scissors

They’ve also rolled out over 50 new beginner-friendly kits. It’s a nice move for anyone just starting out.

The Party Shop: Your Celebration Destination

Michaels didn’t stop at fabric and sewing. They’ve also launched The Party Shop, turning stores into a go-to for party supplies.

From balloons to themed goods, you can pretty much find whatever you need to throw a party that stands out.

Balloon Bars and Customizable Bundles

Every Michaels now has a Balloon Bar with both latex and foil balloons. You can even create your own bundles.

Order online, pick a time for pickup, or schedule delivery up to four days ahead. In lots of areas, same-day delivery is an option.

New Party Products and Themes

They’ve packed the shelves with 700 new party products, from DIY balloon arch kits to themed paper goods. Online, there are 79,000 options for all kinds of events—birthdays, anniversaries, you name it.

Some of the exclusive new collections include:

  • Western rodeo
  • Playful bows
  • Updated classics like blue gingham

Affordable In-Store Birthday Parties

Michaels has cut the price of in-store birthday parties from $299 to $149. That’s a big deal for families looking for a creative, low-stress celebration.

Better Everyday Value

Michaels says they’re committed to better value. Party basics like plates, napkins, and streamers are now 25–70% off.

Balloon bundles start at just $10. Throwing a party doesn’t have to drain your wallet anymore.

Impressive Milestones

The changes are already showing some impressive results. Michaels has hosted over 4,200 kids’ parties this year.

That means more than 36,000 children have taken part. As affordability improves, those numbers will probably keep climbing.
