Exciting Courses for Young Creatives
Hot Pizza’s fall lineup includes courses for kids who want to jump into art and design. There’s sewing, comic-making, and plenty of ways to get messy and creative in a friendly, encouraging space.
The Sewing Studio (Grades 3–6, Mondays 4–6 p.m.)
On Mondays, the studio turns into a lively sewing hub. Kids practice hand-sewing, machine-sewing, embroidery, and even try a bit of knitting.
They’ll make playful projects—think handmade scrunchies—and wrap up with a sewing project they design themselves. It’s a great mix of skill-building and fun.
Teen Sewing Studio (Grade 7+, Mondays 6:30–8:30 p.m.)
Older students get to work on similar techniques but with more freedom to chase their own ideas. This class really lets teens stretch their creative muscles and gain confidence.
Deep Dish (Grades SK–6, Tuesdays 4–6 p.m.)
This course is a sampler of sorts: designing, building, painting, sewing—you name it. Students get to experiment, mess up, learn, and end up with something that’s totally their own.
Inside/Outside Studio (Grades 2–6, Wednesdays 4–6 p.m.)
The studio serves as home base, but the real adventure is outside. Kids draw, build sculptures from found stuff, try plein-air charcoal drawing, and even mix their own ink.
Comics (Grades 1–5, Thursdays 4–6 p.m.)
Here, students combine pictures and words to craft their own visual stories. They’ll play with character design, settings, panels, and pacing, using all sorts of materials to bring ideas to life.
Animation (Grades 3–6, Thursdays 6:30–8 p.m.)
Kids get to try both traditional and digital animation. They’ll use Procreate to pick up digital skills and learn the basics of bringing drawings to life.
Dungeons & Dragons Studio (Grades 3–8, Fridays 4–6 p.m.)
This course blends art and adventure. Students create their own characters, build game boards, maps, tokens, and props—then jump right into gameplay.
Courses for Older Kids and Teens
Hot Pizza didn’t forget about older kids and teens. They’ve put together courses that dig deeper into skills and let students push their creative limits.
The Slice (Grades 4–8, Mondays 4–6 p.m.)
Students work together to make a magazine from scratch. They brainstorm, write, interview, and design layouts—then see their magazine distributed around the neighborhood.
Studio Skillz: Drawing & Painting (Grades 4–8, Mondays 6:30–8 p.m.)
This studio class is for anyone who loves to draw and paint. Students dive into figure drawing, composition, color theory, and techniques, all while finding their own style.
Comics (Grades 1–4 or Grades 5–11, Tuesdays 4–6 p.m.)
This popular course splits into two age groups. Whether you’re in Grades 1–4 or 5–11, you’ll learn how to make comics that fit your interests and skills.
Animation (Grades 5–10, Tuesdays 6:30–8 p.m.)
Older students get to explore animation more deeply, focusing on both the basics and digital skills. Procreate is the main tool here for digital work.
Deep Dish (Grades SK–4, Wednesdays 4–6 p.m.)
Younger students can experiment with all sorts of artistic techniques in this class. Designing, building, painting, sewing—it’s all on the table.
Studio Supreme (Grades 5–10, Wednesdays 4–6 p.m.)
This mixed-media class gives older kids room to try new materials and tackle bigger projects. They’ll use graphite, pastels, acrylic paint, clay, and more.
The Sewing Studio (Grades 3–8, Thursdays 4–6 p.m.)
Just like the Monday session, this class turns the studio into a sewing space. Students practice a bunch of sewing techniques and wrap up with a project they design themselves.
Adult Courses
Adults get their own set of creative options at Hot Pizza. These classes are a chance to learn new techniques or just unwind and make something with your hands.
Printmaking (Adults, Tuesdays 6:30–8:30 p.m.)
This class introduces printmaking on paper and textiles. You’ll learn how to handle the tools, do registration, try chine collé, and experiment with carbon-transfer.
Oil Painting (Adults, Wednesdays 6:30–8:30 p.m. & Saturdays 6:30–8:30 p.m.)
All skill levels are welcome here. The course covers color theory, composition, and painting techniques, with students working from photographs to build their skills over several weeks.
Zero-waste Sewing (Adults, Thursdays 6:30–8:30 p.m.)
This hands-on class is all about making garments that fit—while wasting almost no fabric. You’ll learn machine basics, how to take measurements, finish seams, and construct clothes that are both sustainable and stylish.
