Right in the heart of Warrington, something new is stitching its way into the community. Lilibet Sews, founded by Liz, brings personalized one-to-one sewing lessons straight into students’ homes.
This approach makes sewing accessible to people of all ages and abilities. Liz’s mission is to foster skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging in every lesson.
The Genesis of Lilibet Sews
Liz’s sewing journey really kicked off during the pandemic. She taught herself how to make scrub hats, masks, and bags for the NHS.
That period sharpened her skills and reignited a passion she’d carried since childhood. Her grandmother’s 1903 vintage sewing machine—a family treasure—first got Liz hooked on the craft.
A Foundation Built on Passion and Training
After teaching herself, Liz decided to go further and studied Fashion and Textiles at Salford Community College. That formal training, combined with her pandemic projects, set the stage for Lilibet Sews.
She officially launched the venture in April 2025. Support from the Community Catalysts programme and Warrington Borough Council gave her a strong start.
Empowering Through Sewing
The core idea behind Lilibet Sews is simple: teach people a new skill at home and help them build confidence. Liz wants to reach those who might miss out on sewing due to disability, mobility issues, or anxiety.
By teaching in familiar surroundings, she hopes to reduce loneliness and social isolation. Sewing, after all, can be both relaxing and practical.
Personalized One-to-One Lessons
Liz focuses on beginners. She helps them get comfortable with their sewing machines, learn about fabrics, and finish their first projects.
Many students quickly move on to making:

- Cushions
- Clothing alterations
- Even more advanced things, like waterproof festival blankets
She travels across Warrington and nearby areas, offering these one-to-one lessons in students’ homes. That makes learning feel a lot less intimidating for most folks.
Community Engagement and Environmental Impact
Liz doesn’t just teach—she’s involved in the local community and cares about the environment. She volunteers with Morsbags, a group that turns donated fabric into reusable shopping bags.
This project helps cut down on textile waste and encourages greener habits. It’s a small but meaningful way to make a difference.
Handmade Creations and Upcycling
Liz also creates handmade bags and accessories, which you can find at Hazel Bank Crafts in Bruche. She upcycles denim jeans and skirts into handbags, giving old clothes a new life.
Soon, her work will appear on the Eleven30 Group’s website, so more people can check out her creations. It’s a nice step forward for her little business.
Future Collaborations and Events
Looking ahead, Liz is teaming up with the Eleven30 Group. She’ll have a stall at Walton Antiques Emporium, selling handmade items and working alongside Justine from Eleven30 Group.
Together, they’ll showcase upcycled, handcrafted pieces and vintage fabric. It’s a great chance to get Liz’s work in front of more people.
Upcoming Morsbag Event
Liz is also gearing up for a Morsbag event with East Latchford Friends as part of their Carnival of Creativity on 22 August at Westy Community Centre. It’s another way for her to share the joy of sewing and connect with the community.
